GOOGLE’S STILL THE BIG DOG

As an entrepreneur, keeping your business alive and well depends on a pipeline full of new business. Over the past few years, you have probably been pretty happy, but now you’re probably concerned, as all you hear is “AI. AI. AI.” We won’t tell you not to be open to new ideas, but even with ChatGPT and other AI assistants, Google is still by far the leader in Search and Answer Engine Optimization. To put your mind at ease:

  • GOOGLE IS WORLD WIDE SEARCH LEADER: With a commanding 93.57% of search traffic as recently as March 2025.
  • CHATGPT HAS 800,000,000 USERS: It is true that ChatGPT handles between 60-75% of all Large Language Model (LLM) searches, but Google’s Gemini LLM has just about caught up with 650M users. 
  • GOOGLE SIMPLY HAS MORE DATA: As the Search leader for nearly 20 years, Google has amassed billions of pieces of data that the other LLMs do not have. 
  • GOOGLE’S CHROME BROWSER: It is used by about 58% of the world, and it is collecting data every time you visit a website, how long you stay on the page, and where you click next. 
  • CHATGPT IS GAINING USE AMONG YOUNGER USERS: There is no doubt that ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Grok are becoming more and more popular, but they only total about 9% of the Search queries at this point.

Our advice is to begin incorporating more tactics to get your site shown in LLMs, but don’t think you’ll lose out big if you don’t do this overnight. Search is changing. Can Google hold onto its lead? Nobody knows, but they are doing a good job of catching up to ChatGPT and the other LLMs so far.
