YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF
As owners, we do all sorts of contortions when it comes to allocating money for advertising and marketing. We know we should do it, but we hate to spend the money. And then there’s the question of whether we’ll get any kind of return.
I talk to people just like you every day, and I face the same questions myself: whether optimizing our websites is really necessary and whether we will get any kind of payoff. The short answer is, you owe it to yourself.
- NOTHING WILL HAPPEN IF PROSPECTS DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU: Few of us have a monopoly in our market. Thus, you have to tell people about your business in order to get them to consider you.
- HOW CAN YOU REALLY EXPECT “THE DOOR TO SWING AND THE PHONE TO RING”: Your business needs to be “top of mind”. There are just too many choices. Good advertising and marketing will help you stand out from the crowd.
- ADVERTISING IS REALLY A NECESSITY: Creating sales through advertising is a basic sales tool in any business. Intuit says the average small business in the US spent $6,500/month on ads in 2025. We can achieve significant results with about $ 3,500/mo.
- BUT “I DON’T HAVE THE MONEY TO ADVERTISE”: Then you really shouldn’t open your doors until you do. Referrals and word of mouth are important, but they are not controllable. You need traffic out of the gate.
- WHERE DO I ADVERTISE: It depends on what you are selling and to whom. Google Ads is the “21st Century Yellow Pages,” but it is now highly technical, making it hard for laypeople to use.
But at the end of the day, remember this: You owe it to yourself! Yes, you owe it to yourself to own and manage a successful business, and you need advertising to drive the sales. You’ve worked hard. You’ve sacrificed. You’ve most likely dedicated your whole life to your business, so make it shine and go for the gold!
